Voice performs – Patterns of Love
Patterns of Love is a programme of a cappella songs that explore the beauty, heartache, and humour of love. The trio’s performance spans hundreds of years, from medieval up to the current day with music from 12th century Germany by Hildegard of Bingen, 13th century France, Shakespearean song, and folksong arrangements from the UK and Ireland. Including special commissions and new music by British composers Marcus Davidson, Liz Dilnot Johnson, Stevie Wishart, and Ayanna Witter-Johnson, this is an uplifting concert filled with rich harmonies, beautiful lyrics, space for reflection and both sad, and funny stories.

Hildegard Transfigured
– A medieval trance. Voice performs alongside Celestial Sirens directed by Deborah Roberts & Laurie Stras.
Innerstrings: Chris Tomsett & visual artist TBC.
Mystic, philosopher, artist, scientist and musician, the nun Hildegard of Bingen has become a household name. Composed in the 11th century, when only a single line was normally notated, her soaring and haunting melodies lend themselves to countless transformations from simple drones and improvised organum to new arrangements and compositions.
In this programme Hildegard’s striking images are combined with
3-D lighting visuals to reproduce some of the transfiguring visions she experienced. Also includes medieval ensemble music from European convents.

A Distant Mirror: Machaut, Mannerism and the Medieval Mind
The fourteenth century was a time of massive upheaval. Plague, economic turmoil, a hundred years of war, climate change, and crippling foreign campaigns all contributed to an era of crisis for the established order.
Musical ideas sprung fresh and new in this challenging terrain; an ars nova combined
lithe lyricism with mathematical complexity and central to this was the genius of Guillaume de Machaut. This concert places Machaut’s art in its context, complemented by Trecento songs by Landini, mannerist morsels from the Chantilly Codex and virtuosic instrumentals.

Voice launch their first album, Musical Harmony, a carefully crafted selection of songs defining their distinctive sound. Recorded and produced by Tony Faulkner (Green Room Productions).
Taken from the words of inspirational medieval abbess Hildegard von Bingen (Scivias 3.13.15), Musical Harmony, the title track, brings von Bingen’s words to life through a composition written for voice in November 2012.
Musical Harmony represents Voice’s commitment to repertoire that is diverse while being complementary. It is a musical journey for the listener and the trio from traditional Georgian healing songs, to new pieces written by established British composers’ Marcus Davidson, Stevie Wishart, and Helen Chadwick setting a range of beautiful texts from the great poets, Christina Rossetti, to unknown Serbian sources.
For this performance voice will perform a selection of works from the album as well as new repertoire to be performed during their forthcoming USA tour with Baylin Artists Management.
Signed copies of the CD will be available for purchase after the performance.
